NordVPN review for Canada (2026): prices, servers, audits

NordVPN has servers in four Canadian cities, covers 10 devices and has had its no-logs claims reviewed by PwC and Deloitte. The introductory price is low, but the renewal price is much higher, so read both before you pay.

Verdict

NordVPN is a sound choice if you want servers spread across Canada and a provider that has paid outside firms to check its no-logs claims more than once. It lists servers in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, which covers both coasts and the Prairies. The first term is cheap. The renewal is not, and that gap is the main thing to plan for.

This review is an editorial assessment built from NordVPN's own published pages: pricing, server list, privacy and audit pages. We did not run our own tests. Our review method explains how we work.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

NordVPN suits you if:

  • you live in Alberta or travel there often and want a Calgary server (ExpressVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN do not list one on their server pages);
  • you have several devices, since a plan covers 10 at the same time;
  • you want to read audit reports before you trust a provider with your traffic.

Look elsewhere if you want a free plan, or a flat price that does not jump at renewal. Proton VPN has a free tier, and Mullvad charges the same monthly rate whatever length you pick.

Plans and prices

NordVPN did not show us Canadian dollars. Its pricing page showed euros when we checked on October 6, 2026 from outside Canada. Providers set prices by location, so your checkout will show the amount in your currency, and it may not match these figures exactly. We have not converted anything.

Plan (2 years + 3 extra months)Monthly rate shownFirst 27 monthsRenews at
BasicEUR 3.49EUR 94.23EUR 139.08/year
CompleteEUR 4.49EUR 121.23EUR 219.48/year
UltraEUR 6.59EUR 177.93EUR 269.88/year

The 1-year plans cost more per month: EUR 5.49 for the Basic tier (EUR 65.88 for the first 12 months), EUR 6.49 for the second tier and EUR 8.59 for the third. They renew at the same yearly amounts as the 2-year plans. The monthly plan price did not appear in the page text we read, so we cannot quote it.

Look at the renewal column before anything else. On the Basic plan, the first 27 months cost EUR 94.23 and each following year costs EUR 139.08. If you only want the first term, set a reminder to cancel or switch before it ends. Our cheapest VPN in Canada page compares renewal costs across providers.

Servers in Canada and protocols

NordVPN's server page lists four Canadian cities: Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. The same page states "7,130 ultra-fast servers covering 150 countries" in its FAQ text. A server close to you usually means less distance for your traffic to travel, and a Canadian server gives you a Canadian IP address when you bank or shop from abroad.

The protocols NordVPN lists are:

  • NordLynx, its default, based on WireGuard;
  • NordWhisper, its own protocol;
  • IKEv2/IPSec;
  • OpenVPN over UDP or TCP.

If those names mean little to you, our page on VPN protocols explains each one. For most people the default is fine.

Privacy: jurisdiction, logging and audits

NordVPN's no-log page says "NordVPN operates out of Panama". Its about page lists offices in the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Switzerland and Panama, and says the parent company, Nord Security, is headquartered in Lithuania. Surfshark's own about page says Surfshark and Nord Security merged under one holding company in 2022, which is worth knowing if you are comparing the two.

NordVPN describes its service as no-logs and has had that claim reviewed. According to its no-log page, PricewaterhouseCoopers AG Switzerland reviewed the claims in 2018 and 2020, and Deloitte carried out the later reviews, with years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 mentioned. The page is not consistent about how many reviews there have been in total, so we do not state a count. The NordVPN Trust Center and the 2024 audit post in the sources below are the places to read the reports themselves.

An audit checks a provider at a point in time. It reduces the trust you have to place in the company without removing it.

What to check before you pay

  • Renewal price. The plan renews automatically at the yearly rate shown on the pricing page, not at the introductory rate.
  • Refund window. NordVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read the terms at checkout for any conditions.
  • Currency. Confirm the currency and the total at checkout, since the amounts above are in euros.
  • Tier. Complete and Ultra cost more than Basic. Check what they add on the pricing page before paying for them.

Where NordVPN helps in daily life in Canada

The clearest use is public Wi-Fi. The Government of Canada's Get Cyber Safe advice on public Wi-Fi says that if you use it often, "using a virtual private network (VPN) can be a safer solution." The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security describes the same kind of service as "third-party privacy", used to secure a connection from a public access point such as an airport or hotel Wi-Fi hotspot.

With 10 devices on one plan, a couple can cover two phones, two laptops and a tablet and still have room left. If you travel, the four Canadian cities give you a Canadian IP address to connect back to your bank from abroad. Our public Wi-Fi safety guide lists other habits that matter as much as the VPN.

Keep the limits in mind. A VPN moves trust from your internet provider to the VPN company. That is why the audits and the jurisdiction above are worth reading before you choose.
