Independence
freeswan.ca is an independent site published by Aigen Digital Marketing SL. It is not connected to the former FreeS/WAN project (1997–2004) or its developers, nor to any VPN provider.
Where this site mentions FreeS/WAN, it does so as a historical open-source project, with sources. No VPN provider owns, funds or reviews the content of this site. Our page on how we review VPNs describes the sources and method behind every page.
Purpose of the site
freeswan.ca publishes general information about VPNs and network security for readers in Canada. Pages such as What is a VPN? explain the technology, and review pages compare providers using the data they publish. Prices, server counts and other figures are shown with the date we checked them and a link to the source. Providers change their offers, so check the provider's own site before you buy.
Nothing on this site is legal, financial or professional advice. Our page Is a VPN legal in Canada? reports what official sources say; it is general information only.
Privacy
freeswan.ca is a static website. It has no user accounts, no comment sections and no forms, and it does not ask you for any personal information.
- The site sets no cookies of its own.
- It does not use analytics scripts, advertising scripts or tracking pixels.
- It does not collect, sell or share personal data.
Like any website, freeswan.ca is served by a hosting provider. That provider may keep standard server logs, such as the IP address of the request, the date and time, and the page requested, for security and to keep the service running. We do not use those logs to identify visitors or build profiles.
For readers in Canada: the main federal privacy law for businesses is the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, it "sets the ground rules for how private-sector organizations collect, use, and disclose personal information" in commercial activity. The publisher is based in Spain. Because the site itself collects no personal data, there is no personal information held by freeswan.ca to access or correct. If you have a question about this, write to the publisher at the address above.
Cookies
This site does not place cookies on your device. You will not see a cookie banner here because there is nothing to consent to.
When you follow a link to another website, including a VPN provider's site, that website may set its own cookies once you arrive. Its own cookie and privacy policies apply, and you can manage those cookies in your browser.
Affiliate disclosure
freeswan.ca earns money through affiliate programs. Some links to VPN providers and related services go through addresses that start with /go/<provider>/, for example /go/nordvpn/. These links are marked as sponsored. If you click one and then buy a subscription, the provider may pay Aigen Digital Marketing SL a commission. The price you pay is the same.
When you arrive on the provider's site through one of these links, the provider may set its own cookies. That happens on the provider's site and is covered by the provider's own policy.
Commissions do not change the order or content of our comparisons. Some providers we cover have no affiliate arrangement with us and are linked directly. The guide to the best VPNs for Canada and every review explain the reasons behind each recommendation.
Trademarks
Product and company names mentioned on this site, including the names of VPN services and open-source projects, are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. They are used only to identify and describe those products. Their use does not imply any endorsement, partnership or affiliation beyond the affiliate links described above.
External links
freeswan.ca links to official sources, standards documents, project websites and provider websites so you can check what we write. We are not responsible for the content or policies of those sites.
